The Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance (NMSPG) seeks to appoint a permanent Senior Administrative Officer, starting in January 2024 or soon thereafter.  This is a varied and responsible position in a new and growing School, which runs an MPhil Programme, an executive short course programme and emerging leadership programmes, with a series of networking activities and research.  The main purpose of this position is to provide a professional administrative, financial and operations support service to the NMSPG. The role also entails assisting the Operations and Finance Manager to implement and maintain effective administrative, financial, and operational support systems for all programmes within the NMSPG. In addition, the successful incumbent will take responsibility for daily SAP records, financial administration and coordination together with the Operations & Finance Manager.

Requirements for the position:

  • A three-year tertiary qualification at NQF7 level (e.g., Degree/ Advanced Diploma) with Finance/Accounting as a subject/module
  • At least five years of relevant working experience with similar/same responsibilities sought for this post
  • Working experience with accounting systems/software packages
  • Demonstratable working experience in cost & budget analysis, budget preparations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with cash flow preparations and business case development
  • Proven proficiency in the use of MS Office at an intermediate level (Especially Excel)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal and client service skills
  • Strong organization, planning, and administrative skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team, use initiative, and be flexible
  • Possess a high level of integrity and honesty to handle cash and finances

       Advantages:

  • Good understanding of university environment finance as well as the administrative policies and procedures
  • Experience in dealing with external clients.
  • A good working knowledge of SAP/ R3 will be an added advantage.

Responsibilities include:

  • Handle the financial administration – including core and project funds
  • Reporting and monitoring – including preparation of financial reports for donors
  • Provide advice to NMSPG fund holders on UCT financial policies and procedures.
  • Assist in planning and budgeting processes for NMSPG.
  • Provide financial analysis documentation and HR processes whenever required
  • Deputise as finance and operations manager whenever required
  • Provide back-up support to other administrative staff when required

The 2023 annual cost of employment, including benefits is between R465 633 and R547 802, depending on qualifications and experience.
