The purpose of the Snr Learning Practitioner is to fulfill a management role at the academy in addition to coordinate learning interventions, as well as an integration role between Riaan Rademan Training Academy and decentralised training teams.
The intent of this position is to manage the Mining and SHE Academies and execute the agreed training curricula (in compliance with DMRE, MHSA and MQA standards) in order to enable all Mining operations to achieve their respective training plan.
Key Accountabilities
• Deliver an agreed upon catalogue of interventions based on the target population assessment and learning needs analysis done by decentralised training teams and determine whether the intervention needs to be developed or is already available in order to address the specific identified need. • Participate in the design, development and/or selection of learning methodologies of Academy delivered modules in line with relevant learning legislation and business requirements as and when required. • Facilitates the process in delivering learning interventions through a variety of learning methodologies. • Orientate a learner into the application of their skills within a workplace context including preparation and integration. • Guide learners towards competent practical application of their skills within a workplace context through e.g. simulation of machines and engineering equipment. • Ensures assessment process is conducted according to the set qualification requirements. • Ensure assessments are conducted within area of expertise, thus specific trade, using methods, activities and processes specified by appropriate legislative framework. • Ensure moderations of assessments against qualification requirements. • Designs appropriate evaluation methods in order to determine success of gap closure, analyse performance data and propose corrective actions in place to address the gaps. • Conducts evaluation of learning that has taken place in terms of measurable improvement in job performance and knowledge transfer. • Content review and MOC cycles are developed and adhered to. • Ensures adherence to and implementation of the Sasol learning guidelines, frameworks e.g. policies, processes and legislation. • Avail Learning Practitioners that will assist specific area/s in developing gap-closing strategies and assessing competence. • Assess learners with special needs. Key Accountabilities
• Provides a maintenance strategy, in support of Sasol Mining’s long term strategy, to ensure effective and efficient operations with optimal machine and equipment availability and reliability to achieve cost and volume targets.
• Develops, refines and integrates systems, processes and structures to execute and deliver on the maintenance strategy.
• Provides centralized, professional engineering and technical services, designs, research and development and improvement thought leadership and expertise to Sasol Mining.
• Develops and integrates a “cradle to grave” asset management strategy for Sasol Mining to ensure asset health is managed and assets are deployed optimally.
• Provides maintenance and engineering thought leadership, compliance to safety and related legislation and standardization across the Sasol Mining complex, including the Secunda and Sasolburg mines, Sasol Mining plants and workshops, including technical and functional support to the Senior Managers Engineering of all plants and mines across the complex
• Provides technical and leadership support to Snr Managers / discipline specific leads as well as to the Senior Managers Engineering from the operations
• Liaises with Group colleagues on any Business Improvement and Transformation related issues and ensures delivery on this strategic agenda in Sasol Mining
• Measure performance of team against key metrics to ensure engineering services are meeting project quality, cost and schedule metrics.
• Assess service providers engineering competency, capacity and delivery and address any shortcomings pro-actively.
• Ensure alignment of engineering effort with business need for the PSA project by translating the business need into an engineered solution.
• Compile and execute the Engineering Execution Plan ensuring integration with the Project Execution plan.
• Set engineering business and systems requirements and ensure compliance through scheduled assurance processes.
• Compile and manage the technical scope for the Project by ensuring proper compilation and management of the Scope of Facilities and Scope of Technical Services.
• Ensure Bill of Quantities are approved for the cost estimate and facilitate technical portion of Cost Estimate review.
• Ensure proper scope control and manage scope changes.
• Manage the technical quality and continuous improvement on the project. Ensures proper compilation and management of the technical portion of the Projects Quality Plan (PQP) and Combined Assurance Model (CAM).

• Oversee the management of all engineering documentation by ensuring the appropriate distribution of engineering documents, that engineering documents are version controlled and up to date and that accurate and complete End-of-Job documentation is uploaded and available on the end-user’s Document Management system.
• Support procurement activities on the project by ensuring proper compilation of the technical part of Works Information and Scope. Provides input to contracting strategy, vendor selection and bid evaluation criteria.
• Ensure procurement specifications are specified when equipment needs to be purchased.
• Practice visible safety leadership by entrenching inherent safe design principles, taking account of construction safety during design activities and by setting an example in personal and team safety approach.
• Review engineering plans and designs and monitor their effectiveness and compliance with standards and requirements.
• Review cost assessments and estimates on the production capabilities and economic value, to evaluate the economic viability of potential drilling sites.
• Review and validate design standards and specifications for capital projects.
• Promote technology standardisation across projects, and encourage technical drawings to support equipment standardisation.
• Follow-up on the achievement of set targets and provide state of the art eng best practices and solutions to enable optimum production.
• Confer with scientific, engineering, technical personnel to resolve design, research, and test problems.
• Oversee regular maintenance and testing of machinery and equipment to safeguard its safety and conformity with performance specifications.
• Guide the design or modification of mining and oil field machinery and tools, applying engineering principles.
• Lead the establishment and monitoring of audit schedule to enhance the sound PSA project engineering governance.
• Drive supplier auditing activities against suppliers’ engineering models and designs with quality and technical standards.
• Evaluate major engineering inspection findings and recommend reliable measures to address them.
• Oversee adherence of engineering activities with company SHE, technical, and quality standards, as well as country-specific safety requirements.
• Encourage the continuous improvement of key safety metrics to maintain operations licenses (COP’s and SOP’s) and drive technology improvements to support safety.

Purpose of Job
To coordinate and manage a team of consultants and co-ordinators to actively establish and promote effective and meaningful relationships with potential bursars, business units, service providers and tertiary learning institutions by executing timeously and with integrity all relevant activities, procedures and policies. These activities includes but are not limited to the effective execution of bursary selections and registration, bursary payments, query handling, monitoring of academic progress and bursar wellbeing as well as vacation work and all actions pertaining to the effective administration of the bursary office.
Key Accountabilities
Management of the Relationship Management Team
Manages and prioritises activities within the team to ensure accurate and speedy resolution of activities, ensuring that there are controls in place to execute within the applicable Sasol policies and procedures and handle exceptions as and when necessary.
Reporting and Management Information
Establish and maintain an accurate bursar databases in order to adhere to auditing requirements and provide operational information to Management in terms of predetermined and well as ad hoc reporting needs.
Manages compilation and submission of predetermined and standardised reports on Graduate Centre statistics to relevant stakeholders and role-players.
Safe keeping of historical information to perform and enable analytics on data towards better decision making for future planning.
Relationship Management
Ensure that bursary pipeline goals are met by understanding OME requirements, stakeholder expectations, potential bursar concerns, bursar needs and requirements and to actively establish significant relationships.
Represents Sasol at external forums like South African Graduate Employee Association (SAGEA) and other forums relevant to the Graduate Centre environment.
Bench marketing with external forums as and when necessary to ensure Graduate Centre process is aligned with what’s happening in the industry.
Governance of HR processes within the Graduate Centre environment
Execute on approved bursary processes for Sasol bursars as well as Sasol Foundation bursars, these processes include:
o Selection of new talent
o Orientation of bursars
o Bursar vacation work and unattached vacation work
o Campus visits for bursars
o Placement of bursars on the Development Programmes
o Monitoring the academic progress of bursars
Governance of bursar payments within the Graduate Centre environment
Govern accurate calculations of payments to all bursars and tertiary institutions as per the prescribe policies via Payroll & Benefit Centre.
Engage with the Universities to obtain the relevant information with regards to Meals and residence money.
Liaise with Payroll & Benefit Centre to ensure the timeous and accurate payments to bursars, learning institutions and service providers in order to establish a desirable environment for bursars to perform efficiently.
Psycho-social support of Bursars and candidates in Development Programmes
Develop and conduct wellness surveys with bursars and Development programme candidates.
Analyse results from surveys.
Investigate and identify best solutions to address the needs identified in the surveys as well as information received during bench marketing with external parties.
Continent development of workshops to address the identified themes.
Facilitation of workshops and interventions.
Graduate Centre Recruitment Campaigns and Selection of new talent
Agree, monitor and approve advertising plan for all the Graduate Centre intake, including bursaries, unattached vacation work and any vacancies in the Development Programme environment.
Ensure that the selections of new talent are executed as per agreed timelines taking special care to adhere to Sasol policies and procedures.
Confirm contracting and registering of bursars on the Sasol Admin and Payroll system.
Formal Education
