Job Purpose

Professor/ Associate Professor: Develop and lead research in Food Science and Technology; strengthen research capacity through collaborations, mentorships, fundraising, and postgraduate recruitment and supervision; contribute to the Faculty goals in Learning & Teaching, Research, Community Engagement, and Academic Leadership.

Head of Department: The HOD must manage the department effectively and efficiently in line with the CPUT policies and procedures specifically but not limited to (i) academic project management; (ii) research management; (iii) HR and staff management; (iv) financial management; and (v) student management.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Professor/ Associate Professor

  • A doctoral degree in Food Science or equivalent qualification
  • A base qualification in Food Science or equivalent qualification
  • Higher Education experience of at least eight years (Professor) or six years (Associate Professor)
  • Research and postgraduate supervision commensurate with Institutional Promotion requirements for Professor/ Associate Professor, depending on the level applied for.

Head of Department:

  • Doctorate in Food Science or equivalent qualification
  • 5 years’ relevant experience, 3 of which must be as Senior Lecturer or above
  • The 5 years mentioned above must include 2 years’ management experience related to the functions of a HOD (i.e. academic management, curriculum development, quality assurance and accreditation processes, financial and HR management in a Department)
  • Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above

Prof/ Associate Prof:

  • Teach at all levels of Food Science & Technology
  • Supervise Masters and Doctoral students

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will teach mathematics and related subjects in Extended Curriculum Programme (ECP) qualifications, including service subjects in other departments and faculties. The successful candidate will also contribute to curriculum development (especially at postgraduate level), and will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate Mathematical Sciences students for their exit-level projects. Furthermore, the successful candidate will provide support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in learning and teaching, research, Work Integrated Learning, and community engagement.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Masters qualification in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Financial Mathematics, Biomathematics, or equivalent. If the qualification is in Mathematics, there must be evidence of a strong focus on application in the thesis and/or coursework
  • Additionally, an Advanced Diploma, Bachelors Degree, Postgraduate Diploma, or Bachelor Honours Degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Intermediate programming proficiency is required in at least one of the mathematics software or languages used in the Department, namely, Python, MATLAB, or R
  • At least two years’ relevant full-time working experience, of which at least one year must be in a lecturing role at a higher education institution

The successful candidate will be expected to perform in the following areas:

Job Purpose

To assist with the establishment, project management and reporting related to research projects and technical operations of the Agrifood Technology Station, including the administrative processes attached thereto.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Masters in Analytical Chemistry or Food Science/Technology
At least 3 years relevant experience, including evidence of project management

Recommended:
Evidence of research experience will be advantageous.

Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities

  • Conduct research projects and analytical method development associated with the mandate of ATS
  • Research and conduct niche analysis for clients
  • Provide technical support to research community within the institution including providing training and assistance to staff, interns and postgraduate students with respect to the principles and operation of chromatography instruments e.g. GC, GCMS and HPLC
  • Conduct nutritional and other chemical analyses to ensure compliance with food labelling legislation
  • Costing and generation of quotes for projects
  • Co-ordinate and oversee technical activities including maintenance and troubleshooting in the laboratories
  • Requisition and procurement of laboratory equipment and consumables
  • Report-writing and publication of journal articles
  • Representing and promoting the station at workshops, exhibitions, and conferences
  • Maintain records for monitoring and reporting to Technology Innovation Agency
