MRS: Mining (Various Mines)

Purpose of Job

The purpose of this role is to lead and manage all activities within the Condition monitoring team to maintain and execute a Predictive and Proactive maintenance program in line with the Engineering strategy for the Mine or Plant to determine the health status of machinery/equipment and to identify deviations and implement corrective actions.

Provide technical expertise and competency supporting the Engineering strategy to ensure best practices, continuous improvement, integrity, reliability of Machinery equipment at the lowest life cycle cost.

Key Accountabilities

Establish a Predictive Maintenance Program to assess machinery/equipment’s condition and identify deviations. Consolidate programmes of the various sites and ensure compliance.

Manage all the applicable Sasol Mining Condition Monitoring technique programmes (Vibration Analysis, Oil Analysis, Thermography, Ultrasound), across the complex in terms of adherence and standards setting. Instrumental in driving the Total Fluid Management (TFM) process.

Manage condition monitoring projects to ensure effectiveness of the Condition monitoring department. Positively influence the Condition Monitoring Workgroup and drive Standardisation committee engagement sessions to ensure standardisation across the complex in terms of processes, techniques applied, instruments utilised, database set-ups and reporting.

Involvement in the sub-assembly management process. Assist relevant role-players with root cause failure information and analysis to determine failure modes and t prevent future failures.

Manage Condition Monitoring Specialists and Operators. Facilitate training on all Condition Monitoring techniques for maintenance personnel. Manage the standardisation of a data-based setup and equipment standards by ensuring a uniform quality control system.

Engage with Engineering personnel to discuss deviations and ensure implementation of corrective actions and best practices, involvement in the Defect elimination process. Ensure proper governance, compliance and risk management through defined discipline specific standards and best practices.

Build and maintain positive relationships with Engineers to enable full visibility on improvement opportunities. Coach and guide Engineers, setting competence criteria for Condition Monitoring, aligned with Central governance.

Implement solutions based on cost effective principles.

Ensure safe working practices to prevent injury or incidents by following SOP’s. Apply evidence based SHE practices in alignment with set standards for safe operations.

Enable continuous improvement and knowledge transfer through strategically influencing direction and keeping up to date with technical developments in area. Assess technical work of peers and consultants, conduct frequent audits, and ensure loop closure on deviations. Use expert knowledge, attention to detail and team dynamics to solve complex technical problems.

Establish a network of internal and external experts to engage, discuss to provide input and make decisions pertaining to the Condition Monitoring strategies. Provide consultation to individuals and project teams on matters in his/her area of expertise and sharing expert knowledge in own team and at all other levels.

Purpose of Job

A principal Driller must ensure that work standards are met according to clients’ requirements, must be able to comply to the mine health and safety act. Acting as a Rig manager from time to time when required ensuring the smooth operations of the rig. Manage all employees and service providers on site.

Key Accountabilities

Previous experience in a Directional Drilling environment would be advantageous.

Be able to read and interpret a geology plans.

Control of drilling and directional drilling systems.

Taking important independent decisions regarding drilling activities.

Interpret path-tracker information and plot it on site plan and Excels spreadsheets

Keeping of records and generating shift reports.

Do regular risk assessment or SLAM.

Formal Education

National Senior Certificate / N3 Mathematics and Science 

Formal tertiary qualification in engineering, drilling, geology and Colin Rice training or mining would be advantageous.

Purpose of Job

To oversee the engineering maintenance processes within the appointed area of responsibility to enable various mining teams to reach production targets within the principles of QCDSM.

Key Accountabilities

Manage and carry out engineering and maintenance strategies and overhaul plans on a day to day basis that ensure that departments KPI’s are met deliver maintenance, if and when to replace / repair equipment.

Manage maintenance cost vs R/t in appointed area Maintenance budget.

Ensure availability of equipment by effectively managing downtime / shift / MTTF / MTTR (infrastructure and inspection equipment).

Ensure adherence to maintenance programme.

Implements operational projects, ensures engineering compliance, develops and implements engineering Standard Operating Procedures (SOP in appointed area of responsibility.

Ensure SHE compliance rates vs. targets (especially major findings, % outstanding actions on findings) Zero harm, Zero fatalities, LWDCR.

Ensure the effective recruitment, training, coaching and career development.

Manage vacancy rates against staff establishment (vacancies incl. Absence due to TSD / PSD, AWOP, Successors for critical positions).

Manage team bearing in mind key role turnover rate vs. industry average, absenteeism, employee engagement and enablement score (%, Tons/man/year, Monthly bonus targets) training days for department.

Purpose of Job

Ensures effective, accurate and timely reporting to internal stakeholders. Support the cost and profit centre managers with financial analysis and intelligence in a proactive way. Key Accountabilities

Present and confirm the accuracy and completeness of SAP data.

Prepare SAP journals to ensure correct cost allocation between GL accounts.

Support finance team (manager in preparing BU)/value chain results

Maintain SAP structures to align with BU / value chain requirements and make budget changes accordingly.

Prepare monthly cost reporting of the BU / value chain / area results.

Evaluate completeness of monthly cost and create provisions & accruals were necessary.

Prepare monthly reconciliations/schedules for GL accounts under their control.

Reconciliation of monthly SAP and Management reporting results.

Maintain cost and profit centre structure within SAP to ensure alignment with BU/value chain/area requirements.

Identify and implement value adding initiatives to be adopted and supported by the business.

Stay abreast of changes in legal/regulatory environment that could impact BU’s.

Report and influence the adoption of best practices across BU’s.

Liaise with the relevant role-players regarding timeous capturing of financial information, follow up on queries and discrepancies

Prepare and download Supply and Crude TB, update YTD and MTD workings and ensure completeness for Income statement reporting

Ensure that Accrual accounts are accurately reconciled, and each line item can be substantiated

Preparing monthly JV accounts where applicable.

Assist with rehabilitation provisions calculations and updates

Formal Education

National Diploma in a Finance related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

Purpose of Job

To create a safe stable underground working environment in at a colliery of Sasol Mining. This is a middle management position with substantial operational duties and responsibilities. Main focus of this job is to design/develop and assist in implementing systems, procedures and techniques that will ensure mine stability of all coal mines of Sasol Mining. This will include inputs into the training material as well as underground coaching of all levels of personnel. Due to the nature of the post the incumbent will operate with a wide variety of individuals and in varying group sizes.

Key Accountabilities

1. Provides Ground management expert advice on Operational and Long Term balance regarding safety, cost and production

2. Assist in creating systems (e.g. ground management standard, equipment retrieval standard, mine stability and layout, etc) which embed safe practices as a natural way of doing things – training and enabling functional specialists as well as operating personnel to understand rock mass risks and lead indicators

3. Ensures Long Term stability of critical capital structures and environmentally sensitive areas by the selection of appropriate excavation and pillar design parameters in consideration of the local geological and geotechnical environment

4. Enable and support line managers on a day to day as well as crisis situation basis to manage risk effectively – facilitate problem solution by applying sound rock engineering principles and ensuring the right outcome

5. Identify, develop and introduce best practices regarding mine design / pillar design, mining methods, support design and monitoring methods, tools and equipment in collaboration with the Ground management system aligned with Centralized Rock Engineering support services.

6. Provides input into annual Rock Engineering budget and significant secondary impact on mining cost, production rate-and cost and reserve utilisation

7. (SHE) – Overall accountability for strategy to strive towards best-in-class safety performance and continuous improvement of key safety metrics to maintain license to operate for mines in area of responsibility

Competencies

The Rock Engineer assists the mine managers at the specific operation with maintaining mine and excavation stability in the following manner:

• Risk based assessments of ground conditions and identification of ground-related hazards for effective ground management;

• Control plans aligned with changing ground conditions to manage residual risk through Document 6 (Ground management Risk assessment);

• Alignment of the Document 3 (Control document) with conditions;

• Communicating risk to the employer; and

• Advising on appropriate measures to treat the hazards;

• Completion of Scheduled control effectiveness assessments;

• Participate in the capacity assurance meeting for production Bonus purposes;

• Ensure operational discipline through a competent work force by providing relevant training.

• Appointed as Reg14.1.8 competent person for the colliery

Key Leadership Activities

• Display Safety mindset as top priority;

• Work in collaboration with Centralised Rock Engineer department and colliery

• Dialogue, planning, panel risk assessment and work sessions with Integrated Planning, Geology, Mine mangers and VP (Vice president) of operation;

• Attend and give input into the 24 month rolling Plan; 2 and 12 WBS (Work Block Schedule) and the Integrated Operations Model;

• Apply facilitation skills to ensure critical control embedding in the operation;

• Apply communication skills and assertiveness to discuss findings and report on deviations and control effectiveness;

• Coaches and oversees work executed by the Strata Control Officers at the operation;

• Report writing to Senior Rock Engineer, Mine manager and mine overseers;

• Be able to work independently within the safety framework of the mine;

• Integrity and Sasol Values to be demonstrated at all times

Formal Education

B Tech or University bachelors degree or advanced diploma in Mining Engineering or Geology

3+ relevant years in underground coal mining

Purpose of Job

To support the survey Manager with mine specific surveying functions by managing, controlling all the surface and underground related work on an operational level for all the shafts on a mine thus ensuring that the mine complies with the regulation as stipulated in MHSA Reg.17. Provide the leadership required to manage the day to day survey function as well as supporting direct reports with coaching and training to successfully perform their duties. Perform all surface surveys and underground check surveys

Key Accountabilities

1) MHSA Reg.17 Statutory compliance by Coordinating and Controlling the activities of the surveyor

  • Ensure the surface and underground surveying are within prescribed statutory limits
  • Coordinate and control surface and underground surveying to ensure all structures are captured on the statutory plans and all planned structures are in the correct position on site
  • Conduct check surveys primary and secondary
  • Assist the Survey manager in preparing undermining and erection of surface by collating infrastructure detail
  • Pro-actively issue warnings regarding dangerous holing, accumulations of water and gases, old workings and geological disturbances

2) Surface monitoring of structure as per MHSA Reg 17. requirements and license agreements

  • Proactively create job request for surface monitoring by the Surface Survey team
  • Communicate any deviations to Survey Manager
     

3) Support Mining and services functions with survey request and ensure SLA adherence

  • Comply to job request agreed timelines
  • Distribute monthly working and special area plans M+3
  • 80% customer satisfaction feedback on survey related matters
     

4) Short Term Planning

  • Mining layouts comply to mine layout and stability standard
  • Mining layouts aligned to long term planning design
  • Effective communication with ventilation, rock engineering, geology, mining and planning
     

5) Rock Engineering

  • Review short term mining layout taking cognizance of geological changes
  • Initiate stooping risk assessments prior to stooping activities
     

6) Supporting direct report with personnel and administration activities
