Purpose of Job

A technician plays a vital role in providing technical support to maintenance managers, foremen, peers, engineers, and technologists, focusing on problem identification and resolution. Key responsibilities include driving operational improvements to enhance plant and equipment reliability and integrity.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing short-, medium-, and long-term projects, demonstrating expertise in Equipment Maintenance Strategies, and developing and implementing QA/QC systems.

The role also requires availability for standby duties, as well as working overtime and during shutdowns when necessary. The technician will report directly to the Area Manager.

Key Accountabilities

  • In addition to a pre-employment medical examination, some positions may require a physical fitness assessment as part of the normal selection criteria.
  • Driver’s license and personal transport for standby duties.
  • Candidate must stay in close vicinity to the plant to be able perform standby duties.
  • Sound knowledge of multistage pumps, steam turbines, axial and centrifugal compressors.
  • Sound knowledge of piping and pressurized equipment, including the scheduling of inspection strategies and co-ordination of repairs.

Fomal Education

  • Senior National Certificate (with English, Math’s & Physical Science).
  • National Diploma (mechanical engineering).

Working Experience

  • Must have a minimum of 6 years relevant technician experience with a B Tech Mechanical Engineering.
  • Must have 7 years relevant experience with a Diploma Mechanical Engineering.

  • Monitor on site on RWS, compiling a bill of material and planning;

Purpose of Job

Responsible to provide necessary support to the management on various processes and portfolios (small, big, less or more complex), in compliance with group and regional minimum standards, leveraging HR expert services and transactional services in the region, in order to drive the business agenda, service the business requirements into integrated people solutions, value generation and reduce business risks.

Key Accountabilities

Provide an integrated Employee Relations consulting service to the assigned portfolio to ensure sound employee relations; labour peace and stability and that staff related issues are dealt with constructively and appropriately, as well as within the regulations and legislation. 

Ensure labour relations process compliance (e.g. disciplinary hearings, grievances, redundancies, industrial action, unfair labour practice, transfer of a going concern and legal matters) for the assigned client portfolio. 

Monitor and oversee the ER climate and challenges within the assigned area and the potential impact on the business, and proactively addresses these. 

Drive relationship and engagement management with key stakeholders (trade unions, management, employees and external communities) to actively manage these relationships and ensure all stakeholders are aligned. 

Ascertain and communicate the impact of decisions and actions on wider Employee Relations, precedent setting, morale and reputational risk. 

Proactively educate line management on legislation and policy application to ensure these are applied appropriately in the client portfolio. 

Attend appeal hearings, senior level grievances and other Employee Relations meetings as advisor and to ensure procedural and substantive fairness. 

Ensures that disciplinary and incapacity procedures are adhered to. 

Ensures Employee Relations are conducted in accordance with legislation, codes of conduct and company policy. 

Ensure compliance with HR guidelines and regulations. Protection of the interests of both Sasol and the employee and ensures values driven employee relations is fostered. 

Drives the Employee Relations partnership forums for the business and engages with key internal and external stakeholders. 

Ensures that rules are applied consistently; there is no selective discipline and unjustified preferential treatment in a workplace. 

Ensure managers are equipped to effectively deal with sensitive employee matters appropriately.

Formal Education

3-4-year Relevant University Degree (preferably LLB or equivalent)

Purpose of Job

Responsible for creating and maintaining the site’s chemical inventory system, ensuring accurate tracking and documentation. Conducts chemical storage and compatibility assessments to uphold safety standards. Ensures all chemicals on site are supported by compliant and up-to-date Safety Data Sheets (SDS) from suppliers.

Key Accountabilities

• Implement a risk-based approach on product risk management and product stewardship processes throughout the product’s life cycle in order to enable the safe, sustainable, and compliant management of products on site

• Apply the ICCA (International Council of Chemical Associations) risk assessment methodology in assessing product risk and mitigating controls, supporting Sasol commitment towards the Global Product Strategy.

• Manage the site chemical inventory and ensure that the system is continuously updated.

• Conduct chemical storage assessments assessing safe chemical management practices and provide guidance with regards to compliance requirements.

• Conduct product compatibility studies on stored chemicals or products.

• Provide technical support to all relevant stakeholders within the value chain.

• Support with product/chemical registrations for the site.

• Ensure regular communication with key stakeholders on system compliance.

• Support incident management (investigation, root cause analysis, and embedding of learnings) within chemicals management on site.

• Coordinate and lead the development of chemical management enabling tools.

• Conduct monthly second level assurance assessments with respect to the safe management of chemicals on site.

• Provide technical leadership and recommend improvement and optimisation opportunities to prevent the undesirable event of incompatible products on site.

• Provide periodic training sessions to operations on the compilation of the chemical inventory and guidelines.

• Ensure that all product stewardship processes for systems and technology are maintained, reviewed, and updated to ensure safe management of chemicals on site.
