Position Overview:
Ubuntu is looking for a passionate and reliable individual to manage and grow our school library. The Library Coordinator plays a key role in fostering a love of reading, supporting student learning, and maintaining a well-organized and welcoming library space for learners in Grades 1–9. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with children, values literacy, and is eager to contribute to a dynamic school environment.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library, including opening and closing procedures
- Maintain an organized, welcoming, and accessible library environment
- Operate and manage the book checkout and return system
- Maintain accurate records of all books, including accession registers and asset tracking
- Ensure all books are labelled, colour-coded, and properly shelved
- Conduct regular inventory checks and monitor the condition of books
- Carry out basic book repairs and report damaged or lost materials
- Support learners in selecting appropriate and engaging reading materials
- Read aloud to younger learners during scheduled library sessions
- Coordinate weekly class visits in collaboration with teachers
- Plan and facilitate reading-related activities such as story time sessions, reading challenges, and book displays
- Support student leadership through library helper programs
- Assist teachers in selecting books that support curriculum themes
- Coordinate book donations and assist with relationships with literacy organizations
- Prepare basic monthly reports on library usage, inventory, and needs
Required Qualifications: Must have worked in a work setting for atleast 2 years.
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent — NQF Level 4
- A strong interest in books, reading, and literacy development
- Ability to work effectively with children across primary and senior phases
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills
- Reliability and consistency in attendance and task completion
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to communicate clearly in English and at least one local language
- Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the Ubuntu School
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive working style
- Ability to work independently and take initiative in managing responsibilities
- Willingness to learn and grow within a school environment
Advantageous (Not Required):
- Experience working in a school, library, or community setting
- Exposure to children’s literature or reading programs
- Basic computer literacy
- Experience with community engagement or youth programs

Working Conditions:
- Monday to Friday during school hours, with occasional flexibility for events
- Based on-site in the school library
- Involves light physical activity (shelving, organizing books)

INTERMEDIATE PHASE TEACHER (GRADE 4 OR 5)

Position Overview:
Ubuntu is looking for passionate individuals who are committed to implementing progressive educational models in the classroom and to supporting children in grades R-8. Candidates should have the desire to learn and grow with the Ubuntu School and constantly be learners as well as teachers, alongside the children.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Provide direct instruction in Ubuntu’s chosen curriculum for students in grade 4
- Provide small group targeted instruction for identified groups and individual students.
- Assess students using Ubuntu’s tools to determine levels and instructional support
- Maintain an organized system and accessible location for the storage and circulation of all curriculum and assessment materials
- Analyze data and provide instructional feedback and recommendations
- Coach and support new teachers in the classroom
- Assist with the planning of parenting meetings, workshops and conferences on math
Required Qualifications:
- Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- SACE Registered
- Teaching Experience in Foundation Phase
- Demonstrated expertise in content, curriculum development, student learning, test analysis, and supporting teachers
- Instructional expertise demonstrated through model teaching, team- teaching, video presentations, etc
- Excellent communication skills and an understanding of how to facilitate professional growth in adults
- Flexibility in adapting to new environments and new curriculums
- Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the Ubuntu School
- Experience in analyzing data and using results to modify curricula
- Excellent judgment, growth mindset, communication, and creative problem-solving skills
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive working style
- Multi-faceted, multi-skilled, and resourceful outlook – demonstrated willingness to do whatever it takes to help our students reach a level of academic excellence
- Ability to model positive and healthy character traits and habits, such as being organized, consistent and understanding
- Understanding of challenges and opportunities in a start-up school environment
- Completion of a background check
