Role purpose
The HD & Industrial Sales Manager is accountable for profitable growth across the heavy-duty and industrial lubricants portfolio. You will develop and execute sales strategies, grow and protect key accounts, and win new business through consultative, value-based selling. The role requires strong commercial acumen, deep market understanding, and the ability to align internal teams to deliver a seamless customer experience.
Key responsibilities
Commercial growth & performance
- Own and deliver commercial performance targets (revenue, margin, volume, and customer profitability) for HD & Industrial lubricants.
- Build and execute a territory/account strategy that grows market share and strengthens customer retention.
- Identify, qualify, and convert new business opportunities using strong market and customer insight.
Consultative selling & customer value
- Lead consultative selling conversations: diagnose customer needs, pain points, and operating conditions, then propose tailored lubricant solutions.
- Develop clear, compelling Customer Value Propositions that differentiate our offer (technical, operational, and financial value).
- Translate customer requirements into solution proposals, pricing, and commercial terms that protect profitability.
Customer profitability & account management
- Analyze account performance and customer profitability; implement actions to improve value for both the customer and the business.
- Plan and lead key account reviews, pipeline management, and growth initiatives.
- Drive customer satisfaction through proactive communication, issue resolution, and continuous improvement.
Negotiation & deal execution
- Lead negotiation planning and preparation for key accounts, tenders, and contracts.
- Manage pricing strategy, contract terms, and deal governance to ensure favorable, sustainable outcomes.
- Ensure disciplined CRM hygiene, forecasting accuracy, and opportunity stage management.
Partner & stakeholder management
- Manage strategic partnerships and strengthen partner relationship management to extend reach and improve sales efficiency.
- Create strong internal alignment across marketing, technical, and supply chain to ensure consistent delivery, responsiveness, and customer experience.
- Actively gather customer feedback and market intelligence to inform product, service, and route-to-market improvements.
Market intelligence & digital fluency
- Continuously monitor sector, market, customer, and competitor dynamics to inform strategy and improve win rates.
- Use digital tools (CRM, analytics, and customer platforms) to guide decisions, improve targeting, and drive performance.
Required qualifications & experience
- Proven B2B sales experience in heavy-duty and/or industrial lubricants (or closely related industrial fluids/chemicals).
- Demonstrated success delivering profitable growth and managing customer profitability.
- Strong consultative selling skills with the ability to build trusted, long-term customer relationships.
- Proven ability to define and communicate strong Customer Value Propositions.
- Solid capability in negotiation planning and preparation, with evidence of closing high-value deals.
- High digital fluency and comfort using CRM and data for decision-making and forecasting.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management, and active listening skills.

Job Responsibilities

About the team and role
The UK, Europe and South Africa tax team is responsible for providing expert tax advice and support across all businesses, taxes and countries within this geographical region. This team will act as the primary holder of relationships with fiscal authorities and business leaders, driving effective tax risk management. They will have accountability for managing non-routine or contentious tax audits and disputes within the region.
Within tax, the team will work closely with cross-functional teams to provide local tax knowledge and insight.
Reporting to the VP UK, Europe & South Africa, you will be a key contributor within a regional team of tax professionals providing mainly direct tax expertise across the team’s activities.
The role includes working with a broad network of multidisciplinary experts across bp to understand the business transactions with a view to providing commercially insightful tax advice.
In this role, you will:
- Provide tax advice to all bp’s commercial operations across South Africa, UK and Europe (but also across the globe when required) related to all kinds of Tax matters and with support from specialist teams, e.g. Customs & Excise, VAT, Transfer Pricing etc.
- Develop and maintain relationships with leadership of the regional businesses to understand commercial plans and adapt tax advice in support of their delivery.
- Work with bpTax Leadership to manage tax risk. Continuously identify tax planning initiatives in line with bp’s ethical framework and help facilitate decision making on implementation.
- Work with the Tax Operations and Transfer Pricing team to support timely and accurate filings. Provide tax compliance support when required to meet bp’s regulatory requirements.
- Manage design, documentation and monitoring of direct tax compliance processes in close cooperation with other parts of the Tax and Finance function and support the Tax Reporting team managing direct tax related reporting.
- Provide tax policy advice and advocacy strategy on South African tax policy matters in support of the Tax Policy team and implement said strategy when required.
- Work with Governments and relevant tax authorities to resolve tax disputes.
- Work fluently with bp’s data and digital tools – continuously improve the use of data and data analytics for the advisory and compliance work.
You will help to drive modernization across tax processes through innovative approaches to standard processes, employing technology and digital solutions to drive improved insights, cost efficiencies and to deliver value.

Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Act as the technical expert for product quality processes across M&C, Masana customers, resellers, and terminals
- Coordinate the customer complaints process, including interpretation of results, guidance on claims, trend analysis, reporting, and support in resolving recurring issues
- Provide technical support to Commercial Optimization, terminals, and customer-facing teams on fuels technology matters
- Support product launches, product trials, and deletion of old products, including associated testing and issue resolution
- Provide technical advice to marketing and commercial teams on product claims, benefits substantiation, and bp Ultimate-related matters
- Deliver product knowledge training to internal business partners, customers, and terminal teams
- Provide technical support during product quality incidents and emergencies
- Conduct or facilitate on-site product quality assessments to review storage and handling practices and recommend improvements
