Duties and responsibilities:

Project Management 
•    Provide strategic leadership for the communication and marketing of major Student Experience initiatives, awards programmes, and cross-campus activations.
•    Lead the end-to-end project management of strategic departmental projects, developing project plans, timelines, and coordination frameworks.

Financial and Operational Governance 
•    Oversee the operational governance, policy compliance, and administrative functioning of the KovsieX (Student Experience) digital student media platforms, ensuring strategic alignment with institutional goals.
•    Manage divisional budgets, procurement processes via university systems, financial compliance, and facility maintenance for the student experience portfolio.

Change Management
•    Drive the transition of legacy operating models from silo-based environments to collaborative, group-based structures (e.g., implementing the KovsieX Squad model). Oversee the human-centric change management process, ensuring staff and student volunteers successfully adapt to new peer-accountability frameworks, rotational roles, and shared resource protocols.
•    Foster a healthy organisational climate among staff and student volunteers through effective human resource practices, conflict resolution, and structured performance frameworks.

Student Experience and event execution 
•    Manage the logistics, risk management, and execution of physical student experience initiatives, bridging academic and co-curricular spaces.

Stakeholder and client relationship management 
•    Coordinate internal and external stakeholders, service providers, and divisional committees.
•    Serve as the primary liaison coordinating complex logistics between internal university departments, external stakeholders, and student leadership structures.

Inherent requirements:
•    Bachelor’s degree or an Advanced Diploma/B.Tech degree/Postgraduate Certificate on NQF Level 7 in Project Management, Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Management, Social Sciences or a related field. 
•    Minimum of three (3) years’ relevant working experience in complex project management, operational administration, stakeholder coordination or student development/student affairs environment.

Recommendations:
•    Honours degree/Postgraduate Diploma on NQF Level 8 in one of the related fields.
•    Experience in student media, journalism, communications, or a related media environment will be an added advantage.
•    Management experience in student activities.
•    Ability to exercise group leadership skills, with emphasis on collaboration, consensus building, conflict resolution, and problem solving in an environment of shared governance.
•    Experience within the higher education environment.
•    Knowledge of university systems, policies and procedures.

Description

The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship in the School of Biomedical Sciences, UFS-Next Generation Sequencing Unit. Candidates interested in pursuing an academic or professional career in biomedical research, with special research interest in pathogen genomics and genomic surveillance, are encouraged to apply.

The fellowship will enable an outstanding doctoral graduate to obtain experience of research and innovation at a higher education institution under the mentorship of established researchers.

The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis, taking into account the applicants’ academic achievements, publication outputs and research potential, as well as the relevance of prior experience and expertise. The fellowship is available for a period of one year, renewable for up to three years subject to satisfactory performance. 

Duties and responsibilities:
•    Assisting in wet-lab and dry-lab components of the Research Chair project, including sample processing, library preparation, NGS sequencing (Illumina NextSeq 2000), and bioinformatics analysis of respiratory and enteric viral pathogens.
•    Conducting metagenomic sequencing, whole-genome sequencing, phylogenetic analysis, and profiling of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs).
•    Integrating genomic data with epidemiological and clinical information to assess pathogen diversity, transmission dynamics, and vaccine-induced selective pressure.
•    Contributing to the development and population of a centralised paediatric pathogen genomic database.
•    Preparing high-impact manuscripts.
•    Co-supervising postgraduate students (MSc/PhD) and supporting capacity-building activities such as DIPLOMICS workshops.
•    General laboratory operations, data management, and collaboration with multidisciplinary team members.

Eligibility requirements:
•    Open to all South African and foreign nationals for full-time research at the University of the Free State (Bloemfontein campus). 
•    A PhD in Medical Virology, Microbiology, Genomics, Molecular Biology or a closely related field, obtained within the last five years (or proof of fulfilling the degree requirements).
•    Strong expertise in next-generation sequencing (NGS), viral metagenomics, and/or bioinformatics pipelines for pathogen identification, genome assembly, and phylogenetic analysis.
•    Hands-on experience with Illumina sequencing platforms, library preparation, and tools such as Genome Detective, One Codex, or equivalent.
•    Experience in antimicrobial resistance gene profiling and/or clinical/epidemiological data integration will be a strong advantage.
•    Experience in paediatric infectious diseases, respiratory/enteric virology or genomic surveillance in low- and middle-income country (LMIC) settings will be a strong advantage.
•    Proven track record of high-impact publications and excellent data analysis skills (including Python/R scripting where applicable).
•    Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary research environment.
•    Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
•    Successful applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship
•    Successful applicants must be able to relocate to UFS for the duration of the fellowship. 
•    This is a residential fellowship: the successful applicant is required to spend 80% of her/his postdoctoral period at the UFS Bloemfontein Campus.

The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a postdoctoral fellowship to join the Department of Animal Science. Candidates interested in pursuing an academic or professional career in Grassland / Rangeland Science, with a focus on Regenerative Grazing practices, Grazing management systems.

The fellowship provides the opportunity for a talented doctoral graduate to obtain experience of research and innovation at a higher education institution under the mentorship of established researchers.

The fellowship will be awarded on a competitive basis, considering the applicants’ academic achievements, publication outputs and research potential, as well as the relevance of prior experience and expertise. The fellowship is available for a period of one year, renewable for up to three years, subject to satisfactory performance.

Duties and responsibilities:
•    Conduct innovative research in the following areas: Impact of various Regenerative Grazing practices on soil and vegetation dynamics; Precision grazing management; Application of Regenerative Grazing practices in semiarid to arid environments.
•    Author/co-author at least three (3) publication outputs per year in the form of DHET–accredited scholarly journal articles or books/chapters in books. 
•    The renewal of the fellowship beyond the first year depends on satisfactory performance and the submission of an annual progress report.
•    Initiate projects and seek funding.
•    Register and reside as postdoctoral research fellow at the UFS in Bloemfontein and participate in relevant activities of the Centre for Graduate Support and the Directorate of Research

•    A relevant doctoral degree on NQF Level 10 in Industrial Psychology/Human Resource Management, or an equivalent doctoral qualification coupled with a Master’s degree in Industrial Psychology. 
•    Proven record of teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
•    Experience as external examiner for master’s-degree and doctoral students.
•    Experience on the editorial board of a scholarly journal.
•    Proven international recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in a particular area of academic scholarship (for example, regularly serves as a reviewer for international/WoS/Scopus journals).
•    A research record of relevant publications in high-quality national and international accredited journals.
•    An NRF rating of C1 or C2 or demonstrate potential for obtaining the rating.
•    Proven experience in supervision to completion of master’s degree and preferably doctoral students, and if registered as an Industrial Psychologist, industrial psychology interns.
•    Proven experience in delivering keynote addresses at national scholarly conferences.
•    Serve as a member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher-education levels.

Recommendations:
•    Member of the South African Board of People Practices or the Health Professions Council of South Africa (attach a copy).
•    Proven experience in supervising the completion of PhD students.
•    Evidence of professional supervision of intern industrial psychologists.
•    Evidence of application for funding in (multidisciplinary) research projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Inherent Job Requirements:

Lecturer
•    A PhD in Psychology on NQF Level 10 (for a permanent appointment).
or
•    Master’s degree in psychology on NQF Level 9 (contract appointment: five years during which a PhD on NQF Level 10 in Psychology MUST be obtained to be converted to a permanent position).
•    Two (2) years of registration (still active) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST (attach a copy).
•    Previous teaching or facilitation experience at the tertiary level (including tutoring, facilitation, temporary teaching, training experience, or relevant professional/industry experience).
•    Evidence of research potential or productivity (e.g., participation in or coordination of research projects; strong performance in master’s-level research demonstrating research competence and potential for advanced study; eligibility for or readiness to enrol in a doctoral programme; manuscripts under review for potential publication in DHET-accredited journals; chapters in peer-reviewed books; published conference papers; or other recognised research outputs; and/or substantial progress toward completion of a PhD).
•    A good academic record (attach a copy).

Senior Lecturer
•    A PhD in Psychology on NQF Level 10.
•    Three (3) years of registration (still active) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST (attach a copy).
•    Proven experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules in psychology.
•    Proven experience in the delivery of presentations of papers/posters at national scholarly conferences (at least 3 to 5 conference papers).
•    A proven research record of relevant publications in peer-reviewed national and/or international accredited journals and/or books (at least 5 to 10 publications).
•    An NRF rating or demonstrated potential for obtaining an NRF rating.
•    Proven experience in supervision of graduated master’s degree students.
•    Proven experience of service as an active member of a national or international scholarly society or committee or agency concerned with research at higher-education levels.
•    A good scholarly record.
