Key Purpose Statement
The Associate Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice, ensuring organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations, draft and review legal documents, and support management in mitigating legal risks while safeguarding the organization’s interests
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Safeguard the company’s interests across all business functions by identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal risks, ensuring timely and practical guidance to business units on potential exposures.
Ensure the company’s full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies, including sector-specific and cross-border legal requirements.
Monitor and advise changes in legislation and advice on implications for business.
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including vendor contracts, service-level agreements, NDAs, and partnership arrangements.
Ensure contracts are legally sound, commercially viable, and aligned with company objectives.
Represent the company in judicial and quasi-judicial proceedings, including court litigation, arbitration, and regulatory hearings.
Prepare legal documents such as claims, defenses, appeals, and other pleadings in coordination with external counsel when necessary.
Support the drafting and preparation of board and committee minutes, resolutions, and other governance documents.
Ensure compliance with the Commercial Code of Ethiopia and other relevant regulatory frameworks governing corporate governance and company operations.
Provide legal support to business leaders on operational matters, including employment law, disciplinary processes, and internal investigations.
Deliver legal training to staff on compliance, the Code of Conduct, Competition, Employment law and other regulatory topics.
Liaise with external attorneys, regulators, and contractors to ensure effective legal representation and support.
Assist in regulatory affairs by supporting in responding to inquiries, audits, compliance reviews and regulatory engagement.
Skills, Experience & Education
Education :
Bachelor’s degree in Law (LL.B)
Experience :
Minimum of 3–5 years of post-qualification experience in corporate or commercial law, preferably in a multinational or regulated industry.
Preffred Skills :
Strong knowledge of Ethiopian commercial law, labor law, and regulatory frameworks
Solid understanding of substantive and procedural laws within the country legal system
Proven experience in contract drafting, review, and negotiation
Experience in litigation management and handling legal disputes
Strong background in corporate and/or commercial legal practice
Demonstrated capability in regulatory compliance and legal risk management
Ability to interpret and apply laws and regulations in a corporate or multinational environment
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and legal reasoning skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for legal documentation and stakeholder engagement
Ability to work effectively in regulated or complex business environment

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Stock Management and Reconciliation
Oversee stock alignment, ensuring stock on floor and stock on hand are consistently matched.
Investigate and resolve stock variances and manage daily reconciliation of all inbound and outbound processes, including Chep pallet management.
Ensure compliance with stock processes, manage stock age, and handle associated write-offs and salvaging.
Lead and support the stock team by providing continuous training, coaching, and performance management.
Allocate resources effectively to meet operational requirements and manage work hours and days of the week.
Conduct regular team meetings, resolve issues proactively, and communicate clear KPI expectations and achievements.
Financial Management of Warehouse Costs
Manage and reduce unaccountable and accountable waste, and control Chep pallet-associated costs.
Use information systems to track and achieve key performance indicators, ensuring accurate and timely system transactions.
Oversee cost management by ensuring proper care of stock and assets, optimizing resource allocation.
Compliance and Governance
Drive adherence to daily controls and report non-compliance to IFC/governance controls for corrective action.
Communicate the impact of non-adherence and identify parties not complying with stock processes.
Monitor and manage Proof of Delivery processes, ensuring performance measures are met and compliance is maintained.
Skills, Experience & Education
Education
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Business Administration, Warehouse Management or related field.
Additional Professional certification will be an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in inventory management, warehousing, logistics, or stock control within a FMCG, Manufacturing, or Distribution environment.
At least 2 years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
Strong knowledge of inventory management principles, stock reconciliation, cycle counting, and warehouse operations.
Experience working with ERP systems.
Skills
Demonstrated ability to analyze inventory variances and implement corrective actions.
Strong leadership and people management skills with experience coaching and developing teams.
