HORTICULTURIST

RECREATION AND PARKS DIRECTORATE

PARKS LEISURE AND CEMETERIES DIVISION

Grade: 10

Key Responsibility Areas:

• Co-ordinates processes associated with the development of operational plans to manage the Horticultural activities.

• Supervision and control of subordinate staff. 

• Controls the application of procedures and systems in respect of Safety and, machinery and material resources necessary for the delivery of            services. 

• Coordinates and controls Horticultural activities associated with the development and maintenance of public leisure and recreational facilities,        municipal facilities, community projects, natural areas and open spaces. 

• Identifies with possible opportunities to improve and uplift the area from a Horticultural perspective and participates in specific phases of the        delivery of approved programmes. 

• Disseminates technical information relating to the principles and practices relating to specific functional applications. 

• Checks details of transactional documentation prior to approving and submitting for further processing. 

• Completes investigational reports, recording details of findings from inspections / observations and forwards to management. 

• Conducts research on specific issues relating to Horticulture.

•Receives stock, ensuring the correct number of boxes are received and are not damaged
against the waybill and reports any damages to the Supervisor.
•Assists in the physical checking of items according to specification, obtains signature of the
assistant or Supervisor on the delivery note if all is correct and/or brings forward any
discrepancies to the Supervisor.
•Assists with the issuing of all Uniform, equipment and stationary requirements for the
Department (Metro Area).
•Performs data capture functions and updates the JD Edwards System in respect of uniform,
equipment, printout of orders and store transactions.
•Applies strict and safety control of stores in accordance with all Occupational Health and
Safety requirements and ensures the door is always locked and windows closed at closing
time.
•Assists with the review of minimum and maximum stock levels.
•Completes documentation pertaining to Stores and controls the return stock items to stores
and from suppliers.
•Undertakes administrative functions i.e. attending to telephone and counter queries and
assisting in the filing of all store.
