About the team

The Data & Analytics team is responsible for transforming data into actionable insights that support strategic decision-making across the organisation. The team manages the full data lifecycle — data collection, integration, governance, engineering, analytics, reporting and business intelligence. Working closely with business stakeholders, the team develops scalable data solutions, maintains data quality and integrity, and delivers meaningful insights through dashboards, reports and advanced analytics. The team builds and maintains automated CI/CD pipelines for data solutions — enabling faster delivery of trusted data products, improved quality and greater scalability across the data ecosystem.
The team’s work spans five core areas:

  • Data Platform Support — data integration across source systems, performance tuning and optimisation
  • Data Operations — pipeline monitoring, data quality management, incident management, batch processing and reconciliation
  • Analytics Enablement — semantic model support, Power BI administration and data consumption support for business users
  • Infrastructure & DevOps — CI/CD pipeline deployment and environment management across Dev, Test and Prod
  • Data Engineering Support — data model design, transformation logic, architecture standards, technical debt management and stakeholder coordination

What you’ll do

  • Design, build and maintain robust, scalable and efficient data pipelines and systems that meet the team’s data environment need
  • Analyse business and system requirements to build and enhance data platforms
  • Provide input to the Data Architect on solution design for new and existing data flows
  • Contribute to the design and development of new applications and systems
  • Support and maintain data infrastructure to keep it reliable and efficient

What the team is looking for

Knowledge:

  • Basic SQL and modelling principles
  • Familiarity with batch processing concepts and a basic understanding of stream processing
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python preferred) — with knowledge of basic data structures
  • Understanding of ETL concepts — able to make minor modifications to established pipelines
  • Basic knowledge of cloud services — storage and compute (AWS advantageous)
  • Ability to identify simple performance issues and basic query optimisation
  • Basics of version control and CI/CD principles
  • Basic knowledge of containerisation concepts
  • Awareness of infrastructure as code principles (Terraform or AWS CloudFormation advantageous)

Minimum Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field, PLUS at least 3-5yrs relevant experience 
  • Experience in an entry-level data engineering role
  • Experience in projects involving data collection, processing and analysis

Advantageous:

  • Exposure to AWS data services — Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Athena or AWS Lambda
  • Familiarity with PySpark or similar big data processing tools
  • Exposure to DataOps or DevOps practices

About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled Software Engineer to join our Cash Devices team on a permanent basis. This role focuses on the development, integration, and support of custom ATM solutions, forming a critical part of the software platform that supports Capitec’s ATM estate.

This is a specialist role combining strong Postilion expertise with SDK‑based Java development, with a primary focus on configuration, integration, and operational stability, rather than pure greenfield software development. The role is based in Stellenbosch, where hands‑on access to the ATM lab environment is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain custom applications and interfaces using the Postilion SDK
  • Build and support Cash Devices applications and device integration solutions (ATM, POS, etc.)
  • Customise and extend Postilion functionality to meet business and operational requirements
  • Develop and maintain SDK‑based integrations using Java
  • Support and upgrade integration drivers between devices and ATM applications
  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and issue resolution for Postilion‑related systems
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including QA, infrastructure, and business analysts
  • Support patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of ATM software platforms

Our Ideal Candidate Has

 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Postilion systems role, including exposure to:
    • Postilion Realtime
    • PostCard
    • Postilion Office
    • ATM Application environments
  • Minimum 5 years’ current experience with either:
    • Postilion SDK or
    • Java development in integration‑heavy environments
  • Strong understanding of ISO 8583 messaging and ATM transaction flows
  • Experience with ATM device protocols (e.g. Diebold 912, NCR NDC)
  • Experience working with modern source control systems (Git / GitHub), including branching, merge requests, and code reviews
  • Scripting experience (preferably PowerShell or Python)
  • Solid database knowledge; SQL Server experience preferred
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and debugging skills

Shape the future of a critical banking channel

We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager: Cash Devices to lead the teams responsible for our cash-device technology platforms, terminal applications, integrations and operational delivery capability. This is a strategic technical leadership role for someone with strong ATM and transaction-processing expertise who can provide technology direction, manage key vendor and platform relationships, ensure the stability, availability and security of critical banking systems, and develop high-performing teams. The successful candidate will drive delivery excellence, operational resilience, continuous improvement and people development across a critical customer channel.

What you’ll do

  • Lead multiple ATM technology delivery teams responsible for ATM applications and services.
  • Drive solution design, architecture governance, engineering standards and delivery quality.
  • Ensure system availability, performance, resilience and security across a critical banking channel.
  • Oversee software development, enhancements, maintenance and production support.
  • Lead major incident management, root cause analysis and recovery activities.
  • Build and develop high-performing technical delivery teams through coaching and mentoring.

What we’re looking for:

  • 8+ years of direct ATM domain experience.
  • Proven experience within ATM delivery, support and operational environments.
  • Strong technical delivery leadership experience within a banking or financial services environment.
