DIVISION: STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

DEPARTMENT: STUDENT COUNSELLING SUPPORT

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Key performance areas include but are not limited to:
 Render therapy/counselling to students (individual and groups)
 Provide career guidance and counselling to students and external clients
 Present life skills workshops and organise awareness campaigns on mental health issues
 Administer, evaluate and interpret psychological tests
 Train and supervise peer helpers
 Travel to various sites of delivery/ satellite campuses to render services
 Coordinate the psychometric profiling of first year students
 Design, develop and implement programs in the following areas: Residence counselling, community
programs, crisis/trauma counselling, substance abuse, life skills programs and peer educators’
programs
 Undertake research and do needs analysis to inform program development.

APPLICATION CRITERIA:

Qualification/Experience:
 At least a Master’s degree in Educational/ Counselling/ Clinical Psychology
 Registration with HPCSA as a Psychologist is a prerequisite
 Minimum of 2 years’ experience in Psychology
 Experience in Higher Education environment would be an added advantage

Skills:
 Written and verbal communication skills
 Analytical, problem solving and negotiation skills
 Ability to plan, organise and manage projects
 Ability to work with staff and students from diverse backgrounds
 Ability to work under pressure and over weekends as and when required
 Ability to work independently
 Administrative skills
