Core Description

Perform acceptance/ commissioning/ repairs/ installation/ recoveries/ projects and maintenance activities on Telkom’s power equipment, at operational level, to ensure Telkom’s network reliability at all times. Maintain, Install and Quality acceptance on AC and DC installations but not limited to:

  • DC Energy as a Service (EaaS)
  • Solar installations
  • Rectifiers and Inverters
  • Batteries
  • Earthing and Bonding
  • Distribution reticulation
  • Smart Power Management (e.g. IQM)
  • Issue of AC/DC COC
  • Network Management Systems
  • Basic ICT Network skills

Job Responsibilities

Additional Information

Qualifications:

  • Relevant 3 year Degree/ Diploma (N6/S4) Light/ Heavy Current (at least NQF level 6).

OR

  • Grade 12 (Standard 10) Certificate with the following relevant subjects: Mathematics, Science, Technical – electrical or an equivalent subject that may include a N3 subject).

AND

  • An Electrical trade test certificate, SANS10142 Paper 1 & 2 certificate and the Unit standard certificate.

Experience:

  • 3 years relevant experience at Operational level.
  • 3 years relevant experience at Operational level/ Ex-/ Current Telkom Full Time Bursars, learnerships and internships candidates will be exempted from the 3 years experience requirements but must have a minimum of 12 months relevant experience.
  • 3 years relevant experience at Operational level.

Special Requirements:

  • Able to identify colours.
  • Able to handle heights (where applicable).
  • Able to work in confined spaces (where applicable).
  • Must be willing and able to work after hours, including overtime, Call out and stand-by and travelling away on S&T. 
  • Power certificate where applicable for the job. 
  • Able to function in stressful environment.
  • Write/Issue of AC/DC COCs.
