Mechanical Engineer – Piping & Pressure Vessels
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, Technical Services, the Pressure Equipment Engineer will be responsible for point of contact for Piping (all SANS hazard categories) while playing a supporting role on pressure vessels technical matters. The intent of this position is to strengthen our ability to support the Refinery with technical piping matters and design and for the engineer to play a supporting role for technical pressure vessel matters. While pressure vessels are not the primary focus of this position, the intent is for the engineer to grow into a pressure equipment [piping and pressure vessel] subject matter expert (SME).
Aligns work priorities in line with Refinery Business objectives. The Pressure Equipment Engineer will provide input into Astron Energy technical codes and standards. Furthermore, the engineer will be required to participate in cross-functional initiatives, incident investigations and projects including:
- Supporting Risk Based Inspection (RBI) verifications
- Technical Auditing.
- Fitness for Service evaluations (FFS).
- Equipment re-rating assessments.
- Technical consulting.
- Plant support. Turnaround technical support.
- Caesar II Pipe Stress Analysis.
- Technical support to Incident investigations.
- Resolving technical queries.
- Technical input for construction.
- Approval of fabrication drawings for repairs, replacement and modification to and piping systems.
- Provide engineering support on projects.
Recommend and apply new technologies and equipment improvements to enhance the Refinery performance in the areas of profitable growth, operational excellence, equipment reliability and safety.
Promote and maintain the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of engineering work. Adhere to and promote the Astron Energy corporate safety culture.
Professional Qualification and Certification
- B.Eng. / B.Sc. Engineering in Mechanical Engineering Required
- A Masters in Engineering will be beneficial
- ECSA Professional Engineer required
Work Experience:
- 4 – 8 Years Petrochemical / Refining working experience, with knowledge of ASME, API and other design codes, fitness for service assessments, technical codes and specifications, fabrication and inspection processes in the Petrochemical Industry.
- Minimum 4 years experience in detailed piping design, and fully competent to perform design activities on piping of all hazard categories.
- Ability to sign-off on pressure vessels will be advantageous.
Knowledge and skills:
Applied Knowledge of design packages including but not limited to Caesar piping stress
- Nozzle Pro and PV Elite etc. will be advantageous.
• Applied Knowledge of problem solving techniques (5 why / Taproot).
• Good understanding of refining processes.
• Experience in fixed equipment re-rating.
• Experience in managing of fabricator interface.
• Technical Compliance auditing.
• Project execution experience will be an advantage.

Territory Manager – Retail
Provide business advisory support service to a number of service stations throughout the Region. Assist site owners and retailers with customer relationship management, marketing, pricing strategies, brand building, business planning, maximising sales, driving turnover and profitability, the day-to-day running of the station, merchandising, inventory management, etc. Implement profitability improvements by identifying site growth opportunities, segment targeting and cost to serve analysis per customer.
Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Manage Retailer relationships and franchise excellence.
- Deliver sales targets by driving profitable volume for revenue growth.
- Ensure efficient sales operations and site excellence within assigned territories.
- Devise sales strategies, analyze data, monitor competition, address Retailer concerns, and identify sales growth opportunities.
- Understand and apply Retail economics.
- Wet Stock Management
Professional Qualification and Certifications:
Degree in Sales & Marketing/Commercial, business, or related field.
Work Experience:
- At least 5 years of Retail Sales & Operations experience preferably in the petroleum industry, with proven track record of business turnaround through driving own initiatives.
- Proven track record of increasing sales and revenue through developed sales strategies
- Field sales experience is preferred.
Knowledge and skills:
- Knowledge of both fuel and non-fuel retailing.
- Retail detail and site excellence knowledge
- Retailer and customer relationship management
- Good franchise excellence and CR Understanding
- Good understanding of Retail economics and the RAS model
- Good selling and negotiations skills
- Good stakeholder engagement and organizational management skills
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
- Proficiency in the use of performance KPIs in MS Office
- An affinity for brand and relationship building skills.
- Track record of operational excellence delivery as well as creative and critical problem-solving skills.
- High levels of commercial acumen and understanding value drivers.
