Conduct risk-based financial and operational audits, review systems of internal controls to identify risks, recommend improvements and review the effectiveness of the controls implemented to address identified risks.
Minimum requirements
- NQF Level 8 in Accounting or Internal Auditing
- CIA/CASA qualification
- 9 years’ experience in internal auditing and 5 years of management experience
- Conducting internal audits in a public sector
- Demonstrate competence in applying PFMA and King Code on corporate governance (King V)
- Demonstrate understanding of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Audit
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop the Internal Audit Charter annually
- Develop internal audit policies (IA Guide/methodology)
- Develop the internal audit Quality Assurance and Improvement Program
- Develop the internal audit three-year rolling strategic plan
- Develop Annual Operational Plan (AOP) for the department
- Provide input into the Annual Performance Plan and Strategic Plan, as and when relevant
- Allocate audits to auditors, for the year, and as and when ad-hoc audits are requested
- Monitor work conducted by the auditor, from planning, executing and reporting on audits and other work
- Review and sign off on audit files of completed audits. Provide feedback to the auditor on the quality of each audit conducted
- Monitor implementation of action plans to address audit findings, where applicable
- Draft and issue reports on work conducted, for CEO, EXCO and ARMCOM consideration. Reports sent to the Board for noting
- Conduct risk assessment for the IA department, with input from the internal auditors. Confirm actions to address the identified risks and allocate these to internal auditors as necessary
- Monitor the implementation of the approved budget for the department
- Participate in strategy sessions with management and the Board.
- Participate in management meetings, e.g. Management Forum, EXCO and risk steering committee meetings
- Develop and implement the Combined assurance model

To review technical safety assessments for the nuclear fuel cycle facilities in the area of radiation protection, environmental protection, waste management, transport safety and decommissioning
Minimum Requirements:
- NQF level 7 in Physics or Chemistry or Environment Management or Applied Radiation Science or Nuclear Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 3 years regulatory or industry experience
Knowledge of the following:
- Radiation and Nuclear Safety
- Waste Management
- Environmental Management
- Transport Safety
- Decommissioning
Duties and Responsibilities
- To perform technical assessments of nuclear fuel cycle facilities and other nuclear activities regulated by the NNR.
- Provide scientific and technical services necessary to assess the adequacy and effective of hazard assessments and other safety submissions from nuclear fuel cycle facilities.
- Development and utilization of tools including computer codes and calculation methodologies during review and assessment work.
- Identify sources of technical information related to specific disciplines and relevant work to the NNR
- To review international standards, and advise management of relevance to the NNR
- Evaluate changes in terms of codes and standards and make decision based on facts to ensure nuclear safety.
- Must be able to conduct research and standards and make decision based on facts to ensure nuclear
