POSITION OBJECTIVE:

To provide a high quality, responsive administrative and secretarial support to the C-Suite/General Manager as well as providing liaison support for the Executive Leadership Team.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Administrative qualification at an NQF level 6 relevant
  • At least 3 years’ relevant experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administration and office management

  • Proactively support the Chief Officer or General Manager of the respective function with matters within their scope of work
  • Responsible for filling and documentation of the respective function’s documents
  • Process incoming documents by prioritisation and distribute accordingly (memorandums, claims, authorisations) amongst other related responsibilities for C-Suite or the General Manager of role
  • Type and draft correspondences such as memo’s and letters amongst others if required
  • Co-ordinate facilities related requirements for team i.e. arrangement of laptops, access cards

Co-ordination

  • Co-ordinate all travel requirements within respective function
  • Co-ordinate diaries regarding meetings within respective function
  • Co-ordinate the submission of reports to relevant structures
  • Co-ordinate activities between functional leadership and direct reports
  • Co-ordinate team activities related to the specific functional area as required

Meetings

  • Compile meeting agendas in collaboration with the respective chairperson of the meeting
  • Responsible for accurate and complete minute taking and timely distribution thereof

Compliance & stakeholder liaison

  • Ensure compliance of submission dates to relevant structures
  • Ensure liaison of respective function with other functions within SANRAL as well as external stakeholders
  • Attend to general enquires from external stakeholders within respective function

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

The Application Support Engineer is responsible for providing 24/7 operational, technical, and application support for SANRAL’s business-critical enterprise applications. The role  ensures system stability, availability, financial transaction integrity, and optimal performance through structured troubleshooting, SQL diagnostics, system monitoring, and adherence to ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Information Technology/ Financial Accounting or equivalent at an NQF 6 qualification.
  • ITIL v3 or ITIL 4 Foundation.
  • Microsoft SQL relevant certification.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in application support within enterprise or financial transaction environments.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operational Maintenance Execution (24/7 Environment) 

  • Provide 24/7 end-to-end troubleshooting of business-critical systems (Payment Systems, Web Services, Integrated Transportation Information Systems, Toll Agencies, customer relation manager (CRM) and SANRAL special projects applications, etc.) 
  • Analyse application logs, SQL outputs, transaction records, event logs, and configuration settings.
  • Diagnose multi-layer failures (frontend, middleware, backend, database, third party integrations).  
  • Escalate high priorities issues with structured evidence to 3rd level Engineers/ developers.  
  • Monitor failed transaction queues, pending jobs, and stuck processes.  
  • Provide operational oversight to TCH units (VAS, Key Account, Core Account, Toll Agencies) and SANRAL special projects.  
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues.  
  • Working closely with developers, testers, ERP teams, DBAs, security, network, and server administrators.  
  • Engaging external vendors and partners for advanced troubleshooting and system enhancements.
  • Providing structured updates to business stakeholders during high-priority or operations-impacting incidents.  
  • Translating technical system failures into business impact language.
  • Supporting cross-functional integration initiatives and system upgrades.

Payment Systems Support  

  • Supporting end-to-end card payment processing, including eCommerce transactions, settlement processing, payment allocation, and error analysis.
  • Diagnosing declined or failed payments, including gateway specific error codes, routing issues, validation errors, service unavailability, and integration failures.
  • Monitoring payment gateway integrations and escalating anomalies to external vendors and banking partners.  
  • Validating daily settlement files and reconciling discrepancies between front end systems and backend settlement databases.  
  • Investigating data integrity issues affecting financial transactions.  
  • Monitoring transaction queues for failed, pending, or stuck processes.  
  • Providing impact analysis during payment outages and communicating financial risk exposure to stakeholders.

Technical Responsibilities   

  • SQL, Database & Data Integrity  
  • Writing and executing SQL queries to investigate transaction failures, validate application behaviour, extract operational reports, and resolve data inconsistencies.  
  • Supporting Oracle and SQL Server environments through session analysis, lock investigations, schema validation, and performance diagnostics.  
  • Identifying slow-performing queries and collaborating with DBAs for performance optimisation.  
  • Troubleshooting tablespaces, schemas, user roles, access controls, and connectivity issues.  
  • Validating payment-related data flows from front-end systems to back-end settlement environments.  
  • Identifying incorrect mappings, out-of-sync accounts, and data corruption risks.  
  • Escalating complex database anomalies with structured analysis and supporting documentation.

System Integrations & Interface management  

  • Monitor and troubleshoot API integrations, web services (REST/SOAP), middleware services, and system-to-system interfaces.
  • Validate message queues, transaction payloads, and integration logs for failures or inconsistencies.  
  • Validate integration configurations.  
  • Collaborate with developers, middleware teams, and external vendors to integrate and resolve interface-related incidents.

Testing & Quality Assurance 

  • Execute regression testing after deployments or system fixes.
  • Validate data flows, web services behaviour, business rules, and integration endpoints.
  • Log defects with detailed evidence, including screenshots, logs, and SQL output.

System Monitoring & Environment Management  

  • Monitoring application environments across all SANRAL domains.  
  • Performing daily health checks on application services, IIS app pools, web services endpoints, authentication services, and configuration services.  
  • Restarting services (IIS, WMSVC, authentication/configuration services) during incidents or scheduled maintenance.  
  • Validating environment variables, configuration files, connection strings, and integration parameters.  
  • Monitoring backend services, scheduled tasks, and job execution processes.  
  • Ensuring generation and validation of key account files before operational deadlines.  
  • Identifying performance degradation, memory leaks, service latency, and abnormal system behaviour.  
  • Escalating risks before service impact becomes critical.

Reporting & Audit Compliance  

  • Generate daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Providing structured updates to business stakeholders during high-priority incidents.
  • Support internal and external audits (ITGC, financial audits, system audits).
  • Maintain accurate documentation for system changes, configurations updates, production incidents and RCA findings.

POSITION OBJECTIVE:


To oversee and efficiently manage resources, time and budgets associated with
the comprehensive Toll Road Operations and Maintenance (CTROM) in the
province, along the National road network.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• NQF Level 7 Qualification: B.Eng. / BSC / B. Tech in Engineering Civil / Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
• Registered as a Professional Engineer / Professional Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
• Minimum 5 years relevant engineering experience post professional registration
• 5 years’ experience in Toll Management and Operations.


Added Advantage:
• Relevant Post Graduate degree.
• 10 years relevant experience post registration.
• Experience with toll collection systems.


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Extensive knowledge of civil engineering/road operations, including relevant industry standards, specifications and legislation.
• Deep understanding and knowledge of tolling management, operations and issues in the tolling environment.
• Understanding and knowledge of the technology that enables toll operations and traffic management.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
CTROM project identification and planning

• Monitor Support of Toll routes with the identification, definition and effective prioritisation of CTROM projects.
• Prepare and manage the annual budget and proposed programme for assigned CTROM toll operation projects.
• Define, plan and coordinate all activities required for the overall management.


CTROM toll plaza project and contract management


• Prepare tender documentation for the appointment of consultants and contractors (in conjunction with consultants) in line with project requirements and SANRAL’s procurement policies.
• Ensure effective contract management and oversight, and that activities are executed in accordance with contractual terms and conditions.
• Conduct audits and toll plaza assessments to ensure compliance with technical, financial and quality requirements stipulated in the contract.
• Prepare monthly forecast and monitor expenditure of funds for CTROM toll operations/other projects.
• Monitor financial performance to ensure project remains within budget. Review scope of work and potential impact on the budget and request additional funds if necessary.
• Verify payment certificates prior to approval for payment.
• Liaise with local communities and propose community development projects to management.
• Cultivate and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders, consultants and contractors.
• Ensure all required project documentation is electronically uploaded into the records management system and/or submitted for physical storage.


Management of CTROM toll plaza operations


• Manage and oversee the CTROM toll plaza operations and performance through regular meetings with consultants and contractors.
• Monitor and evaluate toll plaza traffic and revenue.
• Monitor and report on traffic growth and technical issues on toll systems compliance.
• Analyse identified risks and develop risk response plans.
• Support and direct Customer Relationship Management at toll plazas, in conjunction with Toll Customer Service Specialist.
• Address toll related queries from public, tip-offs or auditors.
• Responsible for toll system relaxations/deviations.
• Oversight of Electronic Toll Collection at plazas, including interoperability optimization.
• Identify and manage implementation of energy efficiency initiatives.
• Manage day-to-day operational activities related to concessions.
• Develop and distribute CTROM toll operations reports to management.

CTROM technical support & advisory
• Provide technical advisory services on all SANRAL projects that involve toll facility development and operations (for both CTROM and ORT).
• Support with the maintenance of CTROM policies, procedures and specifications.
• Document and share knowledge and lessons learnt with colleagues across the business.
• Participate in the relevant functional working groups for tolling within SANRAL / Nationally / Internationally as and when required.
