MECHANICAL MANAGER

Job Description

REMUNERATION: R1 119 660.00 TOTAL COST TO COMPANY PER ANNUM 

PURPOSE:

Manage the operations on repairs and maintenance to Mechanical Plant, equipment, instrumentation and Yellow Machines located at Johannesburg Water’s Treatment Works in accordance with General Machinery Regulations section 2.1 and 2.7 (OHSA) and SANS Codes of Practice.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage and ensure the scheduling, installation, repair and maintenance of all mechanical equipment, instrumentation and Yellow Machines located at the various Wastewater Treatment Works in compliance to OHSA and SANS codes of practice. Ensure that identified critical spares are available at the Works stores. Re-order materials and spares as and when required. Oversee projects by providing technical advice and direction to CAPEX department including consultants with regards to the design of new installations and upgrade of existing installations. Oversee the approval of designs and monitor progress of work according to JWater approved standards. Sign off practical completion of work. Manage staff in terms of Human Resources policies. Identify job specific training and development needs in line with JWater skills development plan. Carry out responsibilities as outlined in GMR 2.7 and Constructions Supervisor (CR 6.1) appointment and other relevant Safety appointments (Disaster Management reps and Safety Committee reps). Monitor and enforce safety requirements in the workplace by carrying out risk assessments and on-the-job assessments. Participate in Health and Safety Audits. Advise the Regional Maintenance Manager with the annual capital (CAPEX) and operating estimates (OPEX). Report to Regional Maintenance Manager on high expenditure equipment. Manage and control overtime budget. Liaise with contractors on an Ad hoc basis to ensure that all outsourced work is completed within agreed timeframes. Liaise with suppliers with regards to delivery of spares.

JOB REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B-Tech / BSc /B Degree in Mechanical Engineering (NQF7) / Advanced Diploma / Higher Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years’ experience

CHIEF ENGINEER (BULK WASTEWATER)

Job Description

REMUNERATION: R1 417 068 TOTAL COST TO COMPANY PER ANNUM

PURPOSE:

Provide technical leadership in managing a team of specialists within a cluster of bulk wastewater/ Sewer systems / Pump-station in carrying out specialised engineering designs in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to ensure timeous planning and implementation of capital projects to achieve the Company’s annual targets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Planning of portfolio of bulk wastewater projects to ensure readiness for implementation of projects/programmes. Define technical resource requirements to identify and deploy the technical skill sets, resource levels and systems including the procurement /engagement of external resources required for effective delivery of projects/programmes. Manage projects as per the relevant provisions of Framework for Infrastructure Delivery and Procurement Management (FIDPM) from stages 1-7 and ensure that projects designs are done on time and to acceptable quality. Ensure that all deigns are in accordance with the company’s agreed standards, policies and specifications and are cost effective. Ensure that construction is carried out to the required quality and standards by deploying adequate site supervision personnel. Ensure monthly reports are prepared and submitted on time. Manage and maintain the reporting in iPPM® for projects under portfolio and be able to generate reports as per Management requirements and ensure reports are submitted on time. Initiate the development and implementation of cost management controls by staff before certifying payments for service providers. Monitor and review performance of service providers under portfolio in line with respective Service Level Agreements where applicable. Ensure Bulk Wastewater Standards, for both materials and designs, are regularly updated and approved at the Standards Committee. Ensure record drawings are produced for all completed projects handled by the cluster. Engage with the wider technical expertise across the company to achieve optimal performance and results. Develop and maintain an effective interface, communication and relationships between the cluster and other departments e.g. Infrastructure Planning, Project Management Unit, Contracts Management Unit, and Operations for efficiency in service delivery. Ensure staff development and training by identifying training needs and suitable courses. Mentor and develop staff and bursar students and identify requirements for skills development under the cluster in terms of JW’s engineering Capacitation Programme (ECP) . Communicate, manage and review the implementation of key performance indicators for each area of responsibility to achieve the set targets. Manage staff performance, conduct performance appraisals, and identify training needs. Also perform disciplinary processes where necessary in terms of the conditions of service.

JOB REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical/ Chemical Engineering OR Bachelor Engineering Degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical/ Chemical OR Bachelor of Technology in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical/ Chemical Engineering
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience of which a minimum of:
  • 10 years must be in bulk wastewater (Civil/Electrical/Mechanical/Process) design.
  • 5 years in construction management and leading a technical team throughout the project lifecycle of bulk wastewater projects.
  • Computer literacy in use of design packages such Techno CAD/AutoCAD/Civil Designer/Civil 3D.
  • Valid Code B driver’s license
