Founded in 1896 and set in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, Michaelhouse is a leading Anglican Independent senior Boarding School for boys from Grade 8 to Grade 12.
We invite suitably experienced candidates to apply for the full-time position of Trade Inn Assistant commencing in April 2024. At Michaelhouse our Trade Inn (or school shop) is a busy and bustling place and sells uniforms (for boys and staff), stationery, toiletries, gifts, and Michaelhouse memorabilia. Our Trade Inn Assistants play a critical role in the daily operations of the store to ensure that the overall objectives, store targets, and customer service standards are met and exceeded.
ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE, INTER ALIA:
- General Trade Inn duties including:
▪ Administration; stock control, stock-takes, capturing of stock on accounting system; receiving and sorting of second-hand stock; outfitting; managing transactions, invoicing and sales; financial administration and data capture; display of clothing, equipment and memorabilia. - Customer Experience Management: for both the parents, Michaelhouse boys, staff, Old Boys and visitors.
REQUIREMENTS: QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- A thorough understanding of accounting systems, basic bookkeeping and stock control
- SAGE or a similar Accounting package experience
- Experience with credit card facilities and processing credit card transactions, Point of Sale (POS) system experience
- Previous experience in a retail environment
- An understanding of retail operations and trade, brand, customer and product understanding as well as online stores is advantageous
- Well-developed computer skills specifically MS Office knowledge: Outlook, Word, and Excel, data-capture and database management

IMPORTANT CONDITIONS:
- As this is not a residential position, accommodation is not provided onsite. This position would be best suited to someone already resident within reasonable travelling distance of Michaelhouse.
- Full time position with 30 days annual leave
- Trade Inn staff are required to work occasional Saturdays or weekends on which there are official school functions, festivals, sporting events, and new boy fittings.

We are looking for someone to manage the Marketing Department who is a team player and dedicated to provide an excellent and professional service to the school, learners and staff. General description of the position:
The incumbent will oversee the coordination of all marketing activities within the school that include,
but are not limited to:
- Media, Communications and Advertising
a. Website management
i. Continuously maintain and update the GHS website
b. Print Publications
i. Create and maintain relationships with newspapers and print magazine
publications.
ii. Create and submit content to newspaper and various magazine publications on a
regular basis.
c. Social Media
i. Monitor and update the various GHS social media platforms on a continuous basis - Design Work
a. Design various internal graphics (slideshows, posters, invitations, brochures, adverts,
flyers, booklet covers etc.)
b. Keep the GHS staff and learner intranet updated on a regular basis. - Editorial Work
a. Create school newsletters on a termly basis.
b. Collecting and collating of subject, society, sport, cultural and photographs for the
school magazine. - Admissions
a. Coordinate, manage and attend information sessions, external EXPOs and other
marketing /admission related events that are hosted for prospective new learners.
b. Conduct school talks at local primary schools. - GHS Corporate Identity
a. Ensure that all communications both internal and external are in keeping with the GHS
corporate identity.
b. Work closely and frequently with our preferred brand management company. - Functions Coordinating
a. Assist the Functions Coordinator by creating invitations, submitting articles to the press,
taking of photos, and ensuring all aspects of the event are in line with the GHS brand.
b. Help represent the ‘public face’ of GHS at functions that market the School. - Fundraising:
a. Assist in fundraising activities for the school, including tour sponsorships, events
sponsorship and possibly scholarship sponsorship. - School Magazine:
a. Compile and publish the Annual School Magazine by liaising with publishing companies,
photographers, potential advertisers, etc. to ensure a thorough and accurate reflection
of the school events for the year. - To perform various school duties, including attending after hours, weekend and holiday
meetings, events, functions and other school-related duties.
Necessary qualifications and skills would include:
A relevant Bachelor’s Degree and/or diploma would be the minimum requirement.
A minimum of five years’ experience in a Marketing or related position.
Excellent design, organisational, project management and computer skills are essential.
Photography and Videography experience as a minimum requirement.
An ability to think strategically and to plan effectively.
Proficient in Canva Pro design programme
Energy and creativity.
Outstanding inter-personal skills.
A thorough knowledge of contemporary marketing methods including an ability to utilise modern technologies to market effectively.
An ability to be a self-starter and work well independently as well as collegially.

LOCUM RELIEF NURSE
Description
Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School is a leading school for girls, which provides education from Grade 8 to Grade 12. We are looking for someone to assist in the School and Boarding Establishment Sickbay on an as needed basis. This is NOT a permanent full-time position, but rather suites a recently retired, or unemployed individual whom is wanting some flexi-work. The nurse will be called at anytime to fill in for our permanent full-time nurses when there is an unexpected emergency. The incumbent will need to be available within short notice to step in.
NATURE OF WORK
Provide preventive health services to facilitate the optimal physical, mental, emotional and social growth and development of all students (day scholars and boarders) and staff at Pietermaritzburg Girls’ High School. Identify problems and disabilities and provide such services as case finding, health education, referring and care in order to help prevent serious health problems. Support the education process by working to assure the health of the students.
LIST OF JOB ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assuming responsibility for preventive health, appropriate heath assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation, management, and referral procedures for students and staff
Providing nursing care and physical screening to students and staff; assessing them and implementing first aid measures as needed
Interpret the health status of students to parents and school personnel
Utilize existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students
Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases
Manage the Sick Bay and medical cupboard at School and BE
Keep the Sick Bay professional, clean and orderly at all times
Provide first aid to sick or injured students or employees
Contact parents/guardians regarding sick or injured students in accordance with the school guidelines and policies, and if necessary, arrange for the student to go home
Communicate with teachers and other school personnel regarding students seen in the sick bay and record details on D6
Manage all injury claims with the School’s third-party service provider
Report safety hazards to the Estates Manager
Conduct various administrative tasks associated with this portfolio – type letters, reports and requisitions as directed
Work with the Head of the First Aid Society in managing health and safety at Sporting events
Check and supply the medical boxes on a regular basis
Be present or on call for all major sport events at the School and off site
Other duties as may be assigned by the Principal and/or BE Superintendent
HOURS OF WORK:
There is a current day and night shift roster in place. This roster runs from Monday – Sunday with alternate duties daily. The relief nurse will step in for the permanent nurse that is off so will follow the roster as scheduled.
It is important to note that the incumbent will sleep over at the BE in an “on-call room” when she is on call for midweek and weekend duties.
Necessary qualifications and skills would include:
Qualified professional nurse
Driver’s license essential
Must be SANC approved and registered
Excellent rapport with adolescents
At least 5 years nursing experience
Preferable if the candidate has a dispensing license
Preferable if the candidate has experience working with adolescents and teenagers, as well as experience in a similar role/environment

General description of the position:
To execute the admissions administrative tasks/projects according to the School’s admissions process and policies, handle prospective parents enquires and proactively deal with other tasks.
Be directly responsible for the entire admissions process end-to-end including but not limited to:
Implementation of admissions strategy and events
Frontline management of the admissions office: face-to-face, telephonic, email
Management of admissions processes –applications, interviews, assessments, liaison with school heads and parents
Liaise with parents on admission enquiries and school placement status
Coordinate student application for prospective students
Coordinate interviews with the School Management Team as required
Information service to prospective parents on admissions, curriculum & all school matters
Capturing and maintenance of school database and applications
Ongoing waitlist management
Collection of relevant data and pupil information
Liaison with Accounts Department on the payment of placement fees and deposits
Ongoing communication with prospective parents
Liaising with the Marketing department regarding updates to admissions details on the website
Maintain a complete and accurate record of parent/student details and a funnel of all prospective new student intake in the computerized school management system
Support other ad-hoc projects as assigned
Maintain and update all pupil database files, documents, correspondence
Collate and monitor applications for admissions, including new intake of pupils; provide prospective parents with information on the school (including tours of the school) and admissions policy; enter new intake onto the Pupil Database, ensuring that the necessary procedures are complied with
To issue routine correspondence/offer letters in accordance with school procedure.
To arrange parent consultation appointments and to set up/prepare new entrants’ induction session for parents including information packs
Ensure information on extra-curricular clubs is kept up to date and necessary information is sent to parents
To work closely with the Marketing and Communications Team:
- Ensure that their activities are aligned and in support of each other to achieve the School’s roll target
- Ensure that appropriate documentation and information on all aspects of the school are current and readily available
- Attend promotional events such as education exhibitions in support of the Marketing Department
- To promote the school through various marketing strategies i.e. school prospectus, tours, press releases and maintaining the school website as required
- Assist with the coordination of and attend information sessions, external EXPOs and other marketing /admission related events that are hosted for prospective new learners.

- Previous experience of working with young people and their families.

- Able to deal calmly, tactfully and effectively with a range of people.
- Ability to show sensitivity and objectivity in dealing with confidential issues.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal
- Customer relations experience
- Excellent administrative skills and attention to detail
- Process orientated individual who is constantly looking for efficiencies and opportunities to streamline processes
- Patience and empathy dealing with prospective parents
- The suitable candidate must have an excellent command of the English language and be able to be hands on in responding with queries.
- Minimum of 8 years working experience in an administrative capacity, with experience in the education industry being preferred.
- Knowledge of the SA Schools Act, Act 84 of 1996, enrolment process and documentation would be an added advantage.
