PURPOSE:

Direct technical architectural strategy and manage the compliance of architectural design and Implementation of Enterprise Technology with technology plan to ensure appropriate and optimal solutions in line with broadcasting technology trends.

Provide project administration and relevant support to complete project deliverables.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

PLANNING & FINANCE

  • Continual research and maintain an enterprise architecture solution for SABC and align it with corporate strategy
  • Maintain a dynamic, high level, broadcast infrastructure architecture plan, with a rolling two to three year window
  • Accurate identification of regulatory and stakeholder requirements to guide the technology plan
  • Monitor successful down-cascading of technology plan within Business Units and proactive steps to influence non-conformance
  • Optimal delivery on customer needs and requirements
  • Clean audit report

TECHNOLOGY ARCHITECTURE

  • To establish a target technology architecture and workflow for the SABC
  • To ensure that all projects undertaken within the SABC, either turnkey or non-turnkey, are aligned with the target technology and comply with the architecture plan standards at design review stage
  • Conceptualize systems in order to ensure optimal delivery on SABC needs and requirements
  • Conduct ad-hoc feasibility studies as required
  • Ensure the review of all business cases for alignment and sign off by SAG prior to remittance to the TIC meeting
  • Check alignment of projects with technical strategy
  • Work closely with SABC Technology Business Units to ensure optimal solutions in line with business needs
  • Monitor and assess future technology and broadcasting trends and select and include innovative, appropriate technology in the plan, in a manner that is optimally aligned with existing infrastructure and future business needs
  • Develop, document and collate technology standards to ensure consistency in quality and delivery within the SABC
  • Provide the necessary technical guidance and advice to projects in order to facilitate sound decision making
  • Monthly report to be an accurate reflection of status on deliverables and risks

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

  • Develop, document and collate technology standards to ensure consistency in quality and delivery within the SABC
  • Pro-active and reactive steps during project life cycles in order to adapt architectural framework in accordance with business needs
  • Monitor implementation of systems to for compliance with architecture framework

CUSTOMER AND STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS

  • Customers/ stakeholders handled in a professional and friendly manner
  • Developed standards and concepts to be communicated to stakeholders and discussion to obtain participation and agreement

INHERENT/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant 3 or 4-year Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering (Light Current), or equivalent NQF L6
  • Registration with Engineering Council of South Africa will be an advantage

 EXPERIENCE

  • 10 years post qualification experience in all aspects of the design and implementation of Radio/Television studio systems

KNOWLEDGE

  • Advanced knowledge, understanding and application of the architectural design and implementation of Studio Systems/ Technology
  • Developing a broadcast infrastructure architecture plan
  • Conceptualization of systems in order to ensure optimal delivery on broadcasting technology needs and requirements
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of latest technological developments within broadcast environment
  • Good knowledge and understanding of engineering standards and best practice
  • Good knowledge & understanding of new web & mobile developments and convergence
  • Advanced knowledge & understanding of core SABC business
  • Excellent understanding of broadcasting operational procedures
  • Advanced knowledge & understanding of broadcast standards
  • Good knowledge & understanding of broadcast IT systems and procedures
  • Assessing of viability against feasibility criteria
  • Knowledge and understanding of ISO, SABS, SABC and related standards
  • Broad knowledge of electrical, mechanical, acoustics, ergonomics and aesthetic concepts
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Project Management
  • Knowledge & understanding of all relevant Company Policies & Procedures e.g. Finance, HR, Procurement, Risk, Safety & Health, etc
  • Maintaining Customer / Stakeholders Relations
  • Knowledge & understanding of flow diagrams
  • Knowledge & understanding of file formats
  • Knowledge & understanding of different audio & video formats
