Computer Literacy

  • Advacned level with CargoWise 1 experience.

Job-Related Requirements

  • Minimum of  5  years’ experience in a Forwarding & Clearing environment.
  • Previous manergerial experience.

Electives

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent people management skills.
  • Experience in managing a P&L for a company or department.

Main Purpose of the Role

The role will focus on the delivery of operational excellence, streamlined process improvement and improved technology solutions for Port Elizabeth customers, as well as the responsibility for new business; customer retention and growth for the SEA department (imports and exports).

Duties & Responsibility

  • Delivering the Import and Export operations and financial performance, working with Director Ocean to prepare budget and business plans.
  • Drive continuous improvements to day-to-day operations, and identify opportunities to provide best in class supply chain management solutions to Port Elizabeths customers.
  • Ensure the appropriate department structure and staffing to support the performance delivery.
  • Be a great people leader: build strong relationships and team, hiring of staff, commit to the growth of individuals on team and lead by example.
  • Conduct regular appraisal meetings setting objectives in line with the Company’s goals and to provide succession management.
  • Review and appraise all suppliers, and ensure all suppliers pro-actively managed with agreed KPIs and SLAs.
  • Act as an escalation points for critical issues and customer service complaints.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices within DSV.
  • Identification and implementation of new activities / business sectors / routings / trading partnerships to support the growth in profitable operations.
  • Development and promotion of technology driven solutions, with a focus on automation of all manual activity (status reports) within the Ocean team.
  • Growth of revenue and margins of existing activities on an annual basis.
  • Input into all RFQ’s and Tender for Seafreight.
  • Managing of pricing/projects within the Seafreight environment.
  • To engage and work closely with other department managers and branches for optimal business processes and work flow which in turn drives financial results, client engagement and satisfaction and productivity.

Other Duties

  • To develop the Seafreight product by engaging nationally with the Ocean Product Director/trade land and other branches.
  • To ensure effective financial controls are reported on on a monthly basis.
  • Accounts payable (AP) and unbooked daily invoice oversight.
  • Oversight of all WIPS and Negative Accruals.
  • Monthly budget reviews and forecasting.
  • Monitoring of shipments into customs (FIS) by the monitoring of the shipment and customs dashboard.
  • Management of ZAComments for (FIS) and (FES).
  • Monitoring of Daily GP – forecasting of monthly GP and EBIT against budget.
  • Webcost oversight.
  • Customer visits and entertainment.
  • Monitoring of leave planning for FIS and FES teams.
  • To build the DSV and Port Elizabeth branch culture.
