In this role you will be required to partner with the business in the provision of financial expertise and advice and develop supporting processes that continuously enhance the delivery of financial services. This role will involve close collaboration with various departments to ensure financial strategies align with business objectives, fostering a strong partnership to drive business growth and success. The financial manager will also be responsible for providing various types of reporting views, including functional views, product views, and segment views.

Are you someone who can:

  • Coordinate the budget preparation and manage the process throughout the budget period in accordance with guidelines and assumptions. Monitor and report variance analysis to support decision making and guide management in taking corrective action on budget variances.
  • Record, interrogate and manage costs with associated drivers in the production, analysis and use of information for decision-making in the business.
  • Plan and apply relevant principles to accurately record, adjust and reconcile financial transactions and events. Maintain appropriate supporting documentation according to professional financial accounting and reporting standards.
  • Analyse the financial statements and data to provide insights about the financial performance and position of the business unit(s). Use analytics to identify variances and root causes and propose appropriate solutions.
  • Prepare and report on the business’s operations and financial conditions. Manage the business unit reporting systems for management, project or performance reporting and implement optimal processes to deliver management information according to the reporting cycle. This includes providing various types of reporting views such as functional views, product views, and segment views.
  • Maximise productivity through efficient planning of people and processes to drive optimal utilisation of available resources; identify and implement improvements to accounting and reporting processes.
  • Execute relevant internal controls to ensure the integrity of operations, financial and accounting practices. Evaluate risk factors that could adversely affect the business unit(s). Implement procedures to mitigate identified risks or exposure to risk, and disclose risk information to relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review and prepare tax returns to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable tax legislation and regulation; provide advice and solutions to business tax matters.
  • Review and prepare Annual Financial Statements to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable IFRS standards and Company Law regulations.

You will be an ideal candidate if you

  • Have completed relevant undergraduate degree – B Com Hons / BSc Maths etc. Preferred: CA and/or CIMA.
  • Have 4 – 5 years of working experience in the financial field post qualification.
  • Have technical accounting expertise and experience in the Asset Management industry

Operational Risk Manager

Job Description

The purpose of this role is to ensure comprehensive identification, measurement and reporting of risks inherent in key business processes. The role provides critical assurance and risk mitigation by providing a view as to the adequacy and effectiveness of the controls in place and where required assists in their development. The incumbent must ensure alignment to the FirstRand operational risk frameworks and policies, minimize losses and exposures to all key risks, including IT and cyber related exposures. Additionally, the incumbent must identify, and report risk trends from operational risk source systems through efficient data analytics.

  • Keep abreast of the bank’s risk appetite and system/ technology or platform updates.
  • Keep abreast of emerging operational risks.
  • Work in close partnership with the C&I ERM team as well the deployed operational risk management teams to support end-to-end operational risk management.
  • Provide support to the management of the C&I IT risk profile.
  • Partner with the deployed operational risk teams to ensure the reporting of relevant operational risk events in line with the C&I reporting standard and relevant policies.
  • Understand the end-to-end operational risk processes and how to optimize it.
  • Facilitate the identification, assessment, and relevant mitigation of operational risk in line with the ORMF.
  • Prepare the operational risk profile report to the relevant management committees considering all key risks as well as the weekly escalation report to senior stakeholders.
  • Facilitate input into the operational risk policies review processes.
  • Identify control gaps in processes and recommend remedial actions.
  • Develop and recommend appropriate additional Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) if relevant (including the revision of thresholds when required).
  • Assist with the analysis of loss event trends, events categorization, and root cause analysis of operational risk events in the operational risk source systems.
  • Partner with the deployed operational risk teams to ensure that the operational risk appetite remains relevant and drive the reporting and monitoring of the operational risk events on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with BCBS239 for C&I operational risk.
  • Perform periodic assurance control testing and requisite deep dives in line with operational and IT risk assurance plans.
  • Assist with the drive to close out overdue audit findings.
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Find opportunities to leverage relationships and promote knowledge sharing, ideas and insights.
  • Adapt communication styles to meet the needs of different audiences.
  • Be solution-driven despite conflicting views and seeks mutual gains when addressing conflicts.

This role entails driving Transactional Banking growth and product penetration via business development and cross selling in the organisation’s target customer sectors with existing clients.

Are You Someone Who Can:

  • Action cash management reports to avoid loss of revenue by ensuring that all new and existing accounts are correctly linked
  • Incorporate potential client queries into sound client service plans aligned to the client’s business needs.
  • Lead all proactive transactional banking related matters with the client
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities within the existing client base and collaborate with internal stakeholders to execute cross-selling initiatives and strategies
  • Promote bundles banking solutions to clients to maximise revenue and deepen client relationships
  • Collaborate closely with Coverage as the escalation point for clients’ transactional banking related matters
  • Work closely with the client service suite to derive insights into the types of queries being raised by the client, and act as an escalation point for the client when queries logged by the client are not resolved accurately and timeously.
  • Support and/or facilitate documentation requirements to execute the client’s credit-related activities (including, but not limited to credit application, credit facilities loading or reduction, commitment fees age analysis and invoicing, excess reports and general facilities utilisation reporting), with input from the Relationship Manager Leverage existing client relationships to drive initiatives, ensuring optimal utilisation of banking products and services to meet client needs while maximising revenue generation
  • Conduct regular portfolio reviews to assess profitability and identify areas for improvement
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies related to transactional banking activities
  • Maintain and update client mandates including account signatories, resolutions, and telephonic mandates
  • Set the client service engagement plan for managing the Clients within the allocated portfolio, distinguishing the sub-segments and their unique requirements (e.g., priority Clients) 
  • Set specific goals and objectives for each customer and develops a roadmap of meeting these goals and objectives per client
  • Forecast and assess the Client’s volume of business transactions and ensure the maintenance of these volumes each month
