Programme Overview
eThekwini Municipality invites applications from unemployed graduates and students requiring workplace experience to participate in its Internship Programme.
The programme provides young professionals with an opportunity to gain meaningful workplace exposure, develop occupational skills, and apply academic knowledge within a dynamic local government environment.
The Internship Programme supports youth development, improves employability, and contributes towards building a skilled workforce capable of supporting effective municipal service delivery.
The programme provides structured workplace learning opportunities across various disciplines, including but not limited to administration, finance, engineering, built environment, information technology, environmental studies, law, health sciences, humanities, management, and related fields.
Duration
Successful candidates will be appointed for:
- Up to 24 months – University graduates
- Up to 18 months – TVET graduates who have completed the required N6 qualification and practical training requirements

- Monthly stipends will range from R2 927.79 to R8 902.15. depending on qualification level.
- Applicants who have previously participated in or benefited from an internship/work experience programme for 12 months or longer will not be considered.

SMART SOLAR SYSTEM TRAINING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR UNEMPLOYED YOUTH
eThekwini Municipality, in partnership with Plentify (Pty) Ltd, invites applications from unemployed youth to participate in the three (3)-month Project Smart Solar Training Development Programme.
Suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply for this opportunity, which aims to equip participants with practical skills in installing home energy management systems
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Pass Technical Matric Certificate/N3 Technical Matric with Electrical and/or Plumbing trade subject
- Be a South African Citizen with a valid Identity Document (ID)
- Applicants must be between the age of 18 – 35 years
- Must have code 8 or 10 driver’s licence
- Applicants must be unemployed
- Must reside within the eThekwini Municipality (Proof of residence required)
- Ability to read, write and follow instructions in English
- Must be physically fit and able to perform manual work, including working at heights, rooftops, ceilings, and confined spaces
- Must be willing to participate in training and work-based activities
- Passionate about energy, sustainability, and contributing to the community
- Ability to use a smartphone and digital applications for communication and reporting
- Applicants should not have participated in a similar programme before
- Applicants will be required to undergo assessments (verbal, written, and/or medical) as part of the recruitment process
Candidates will be required to complete a training programme as per the specified and regulated criteria. The programme will involve classroom training in theory as well as practical training on-site components. PWD candidates are also encouraged to apply.
